Biography I graduated the University of Florida with BS in Mechanical Engineering in 1995. I have worked for Florida Power & Light for 5 years and General Electric for 12 years. I am currently working on heavy duty gas turbines up to 450 MW class with GE. I specialize in heavy power plant equipment with unlimited rating with a focus on power conversion of all types of fuel/energy forms for useful work/electric power.  As I grew up near a farm I spent many summers working there and maintaining all of the equipment. I am currently restoring a 1956 Farmall cub tractor. My hobbies include climbing, skiing, small engine repair and backyard zip-line design. The projects I am currently working on are rebuilding a commercial pressure washer for my snow making machine, designing a new fan snowgun. I have extensive knowledge of instrument measurements with thermocouples, thermistors and pressure sensors.
Why I am qualified to teach
Farm Mechanics
Prerequisites for this Activity We will be performing hands on maintenance on a tractor and hand tools. We will be using a grease filler and changing oil. So please wear old clothes, preferably dark in color. Also no open toe shoes or croc's. If you have a pair of yard gloves please bring them. I will provide medical gloves to those changing the oil.

Prior to attending class please do or bring the following:
1b  Draw a plan showing a well-equipped farm shop. Point out the shop's mandatory safety devices and features. See example in MB book page 31. You can use your garage or imagine the idea space.
1d  Obtain the MSDS for any engine fluid or other flammable or hazardous material mentioned in the MB book. Search the web for automotive oil or gasoline or diesel.
3c or 3d Bring to class a screwdriver, chisel or punch that has a worn tip or mushroomed head.
4b Please review a lawn mower or garden tractor manual winter storage procedure.
5  Visit a farm implement dealer. Interview the dealer technician or service manager for hints on good preventive maintenance. Ask why it is important, the costs, and what causes wear or damage. Report what you learned during class.
6 Read about a,b,c, as we will be discussing all three with some hands on training as well. There will be questions on safety requirements as well.
7  Find out about three career opportunities in farm mechanics. Pick one and find out the education, training, and experience required for this profession. We will discuss this in class.
